Nice little owl.

Snowbasin had yet another great day of music, outdoor activities and this time we had a treat with a rescue bird exhibit by Patti Richards.  Patti had three amazing owls, all of them are under her care and rehabilitation program.  It was almost surreal to be sitting with the fine friends and folks on the deck of Earl's Lodge, listening to a variety of jazz standards and staring eye to eye with a flamulated owl that was the size of a baseball.

New Orleans style jazz was our musical treat, performed by the Frederick James McCray quintet.  Here's a small clip of the band playing one of their numbers.

We all did a double take when Mary Rowland, one of the familiar smiling faces at The Basin, walked past us carrying an owl.  Not only that, but she walked over to us and let us take a look close up.  Amazing creatures and suprisingly at ease in this setting.

We were also treated to a short hello with the man himself, Earl Holding.  Mr. Holding was smiling and intersted as Patti shared the story of her work with rehabilitating animals.  A frequent visitor to mountain and to our area, he continues to take a personal role in the stewardship of the land he owns and the resorts that he operates.  Perhaps that's why Snowbasin is such a first class place that never ceases to satisfy and impress.

Here's some great shots of Patti and Mary Rowland sharing the owls on Sunday afternoon.
