LAKEWOOD , Colo. – May 28,
2008 – Today the National Ski
Areas Association (NSAA) announced the winners of the ninth annual National
Kid’s Safety Poster Contest. The 2007/08 winners were Lynzi Deeter, 11,
representing Snowbasin, Utah, and Larkin Armbruster, 9, representing Vail
Mountain, Colo. For their efforts, Lynzi and Larkin each received a Pro-Tec
helmet.
The annual contest is part of NSAA’s HEADS UP safety
initiative. The contest targets fourth, fifth and sixth graders, but any
elementary age child can participate. This year hundreds of children created
posters at ski areas across the country. The students are asked to create a
poster related to any one of the seven points of the Your Responsibility Code,
or one of the three points of the Smart Style terrain park safety initiative.
Lynzi’s poster was recognized as the “Best
Overall Safety Message.” Her poster emphasized the Make a Plan Smart
Style safety message, illustrated the importance of having a planned strategy
before using terrain park features. Lynzi, who learned to ski when she was
five, now skis about 10 days each season, and she says next season, she wants
to learn how to snowboard. Meanwhile Larkin, who received the award for
“Most Creative Safety Message” for her poster featuring the message
“Have Faith, Ski Safe” has been skiing since she was 18 months old
and is a member of Ski and Snowboard Club Vail. She loves skiing moguls and
averages 45 days each season.
Both winning posters were on display at the NSAA National
Convention and Tradeshow held at the Hilton San Francisco, Calif., and will be
published in the August issue of the NSAA Journal. For more information on the
Kids’ Safety Poster Contest or other NSAA safety initiatives and
resources, visit the Safety & Education section of www.nsaa.org.
