These are the days that dreams are made of. Wednesday we had a slow start but I guess that really doesn't matter when you're going to Powder Mountain. The hush, the quiet, where were all the people??? Having been there last Saturday, what might have been the biggest day in Pow Mow's history, the contrast was surreal. We started the day of with a couple of runs back to the bus stop and can only tell you that it was dreamy. Creamy windblown drifts, sure there were some mixed spots but the visibility was great and we were able to draw some pretty sweet lines back down to the road.
After a few truck runs we did the big hike up James Peak, breaking boot pack straight up the ridge. Not for the faint of lung or heart, the hike is a great experience with phenomenal views of Logan, Ben Lomand & Willard Peak, Wolf Mountain and all of bustling downtown Eden. We arrived at the summit with frozen faces because it was COLD. Really COLD. Another push out the ridge and we were presented with some very challenging terrain. Completely untracked and uncharted. We ventured into our private bowl and looked down into a 60' wide snarl of jaggy rocks. I took a high line and dropped in around the rock band and came flying out the bottom of the bowl into an entire powderfield covered in a rock obstacle course. Hitting any one of those submerged points would have sent my flying. Once again my Nidecker Legend came through though and was completely responsive to every little turning input I gave it to see me through the other side.
After that drop I turned back up the hill to watch Jeremy Jones come flying off the other edge of the same bowl. I considered that line from above but thought I'd save some Ptex for a change. Watching Jeremy blast it though gave me the inspiration to venture a little deeper next time I do the same hike.

That pretty much rapped up our half day of runs. We put out quite a bit of effort to get where we were going, and in the end we only really did three runs, but boy was it worth it. We finished the day with the traditional visit to the Powder Keg. The place where the burgers and chili fries reign supreme, the beer flows amply and most people come in with a snow covered face that melts to a big rosy smile.
Today though we had Jeremy Jones and the whole Rossignol crew in there. I had a chance to talk to Jeremy and ask him about his day on the Mountain. Interview to follow...
