Do you want to start your own business? Are you struggling with where to begin? A good idea is to ask yourself some in-depth
questions and answer them very honestly.
The first question you should ask yourself is: Why do you want to start a business? It is very important to understand the
reasons -- do you want to be your own
boss? If that is the driving force, do
you realize that when you own your own business every client you have is your
boss; or could it be you have a great idea or invention, or you think you can
do something or provide a service better that what you see currently in the
market; maybe you want to make a difference, or maybe you see a niche, an area you
think you can fill.
Once you are clear on the real reasons you want to start a
business, you then need to do an honest self-analysis of your skills -- are you cut out to be an entrepreneur. Some of those questions might be:
Are you a risk taker?
Are you a self-starter?
Do you have good business acumen?
Are you competitive?
Can you make good decisions, even under pressure?
Do you have a high energy level (most new business are not a
9-5 job)?
Do you have the financial resources to start and maintain a business?
Do you need security?
How will starting a business affect your family?
Are you a good manager -of people, of time?
If you come up with good answers, then maybe you are ready to get started.
Your next step is to create your business plan. A business plan is critical as it provides a
blueprint, map, or guide to where you want to go. As with anything, if your vision is clear, your chances of success are greater. I am sure you have heard, in business there are no guarantees, but your goal is to give yourself the very best chance. Without a clear picture of what you want to do, (a well defined Business Plan) you may succeed, but not before you wander a bit and your chances of
success are diminished.
