WOW!! The views are incredible and so is the challenge. If you're up
for it, and you have the right gear, Snowbasin's mountain biking trails
offer a ton of fun for the adventureous. Combine that with lunch and
entertainment and you'll be worn out at the end of the day.
Sunday was Snowbasin's opening day of the summer season for music
and also the start of the first week of gondola served mountain biking
on and endless array of trails. We started our day by renting a pair of
Snowbasin's top of the line downhill mountain bikes. SIX INCHES of
travel, beefy tires, disc brakes and a stout frame add up to a mount
you can trust on Basin's challenging single track trails.
After a quick run on the practice loop we began our adventure down
the mountain. Needles #1 trail is rated the easiest way down, but be
forwarned, even this run is long and challenging. Unlike the mountain's
steep and wide slopes, Basin's summer time trails are single track and
loaded with lots of switchbacks, rocks, creek crossings and amazing
vistas. You definitely want a bike with suspension, helmet, gloves, eye
protection and SUNSCREEN. (and don't forget your hat for later when
you're kicken back listening to music at the base)
