Spring is upon us…

Spring is upon us… which means many more wonderful adventures in Eden Valley can begin! It is time to enjoy our mountains and get outside to smell the wild flowers. No more winter excuses… lace up those hiking shoes, or tune up those mountain bikes. Among the many amazing hiking trails in Eden Valley, a few include the North Arm Trail, Wheeler Creek in Ogden Canyon and Lewis Peak. As the snow melts, the Snowbasin Trail System offers a wide array of trails at all levels of difficulty.

For those who do not have a bike, drop into Diamond Peak in downtown Eden and rent one of this year’s hot new rides… and don’t forget your trail map! The bike and ski shop is only a minute away from the scenic and easy North Arm Trail, which leads to the Wheeler Creek Trail.

Wheeler Creek is a moderately difficult climb with a gravel base to reduce the mud in the wet spring conditions. With a creek running alongside much of the trail, water torrents down… especially in early spring. The trail head is located at the top of Ogden Canyon just below the spillway on the south side. The top of the trail provides even more opportunities within the Forest Service Network’s Snowbasin trail system.

Lewis Peak is more difficult and starts at the top of the North Ogden Divide on the south side. The trail climbs from 7,900 to 8,030 feet in about 2.5 miles (one way). The trail has a steady climb of 1500 feet for the first 2 miles and then a gradual ascent to the summit. The hike offers amazing views of both Ogden and Eden Valley. Most mountain bikers will descend this route from the Skyline South trail and avoid ascending this route. Although ascent is possible on a bike, it is extremely difficult.

For those who aren’t ready to jump on a trail may we suggest a ride up the gondola at Snowbasin Resort for breakfast, dinner… or just a chance to see how amazing the mountains are without the extra effort? Snowbasin Resort will kick off the summer season as our coveted snow melts. Check out Snowbasin.com for more information about the gondola, including ride availability. If you prefer to hike or ride a bike down a mountain as opposed to climbing, let the gondola make the climb for you. Bike rentals are available at Snowbasin Resort in the Grizzly Center.

Take the opportunity to try something new this season! And while you’re in the beautiful Eden Valley, you are invited to visit these exciting, exclusive properties: Basinview Estates, The Legends at Hawkins Creek, and River’s Edge. In effort to better our community… a voluntary donation will be made by each developer from lot sales toward the development of new pathways in the Eden Valley.
